SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2017, 5:00 P.M.

5920 SECOND AVENUE, DETROIT (dinner served)

The struggle against white supremacy in all its forms is just! The events in Charlottesville, followed by the action in Durham that toppled the Confederate monument, are part of a growing movement to combat some of the most heinous, racist sections of far right that have been emboldened by Trump. In response, cities across the country have preemptively taken down Confederate monuments — not because these politicians want to “do the right thing,” but because they fear rebellion and the strength of a united, multinational movement.

In spite of this, Trump’s bellicose attacks on our movement have continued — including the egregious pardoning of arch-racist Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the elimination of DACA, and a media onslaught equating anti-fascist fighters with Nazi and KKK scum. Discuss how to heighten the fight against racism and white supremacy in Michigan and across the U.S.

Wednesday, Aug. 16, 5 PM

Hart Plaza, Jefferson and Woodward, Detroit

Amid increased attacks against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea by Wall Street and the Pentagon, there is a looming threat of war hanging over us. President Trump’s comment on unleashing “fire and fury like the world has never seen” is a threat of nuclear conflict not only just for those living on the Korean peninsula, but a potential maelstrom that could engulf DPRK’s neighbors as well, such as Russia and China.
The drive for war most be opposed in whatever way possible and people of all countries must unite against it, in the name of peace. We encourage anyone from any organization or group opposed to imperialist war to speak out at the demonstration.

Workers World Party Class Series commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Russian Revolution

Workers World Party Class
Lenin’s State and Revolution
Saturday, August 5, 5:00 PM

Dinner followed by reading and discussion.

Class leaders: Kayla Pauli and Jamie Smedley

Join us Saturday, August 5th for our class on State And Revolution written by V.I. Lenin just a few months before the successful worker revolution in 1917 and published in 1918. Come to a discussion on what is the capitalist state, and why socialist revolution is the only solution to police brutality, prisons and the U.S. court system of justice for the rich and enslavement for the workers and oppressed.

Lenin notes that the capitalist state “is a power which arose from society but places itself above it and alienates itself more and more from it. What does this power mainly consist of? It consists of special bodies of armed men having prisons, etc., at their command.”

Following the overthrow of Tsar Nicholas II and the creation of the Provisional Government in Russia, the April Theses are a set of documents outlining the tasks of communists in that period.

Revolutionaries of today must examine the conditions during previous revolutionary periods and learn from their successes and shortcomings to better arm ourselves for the days ahead.

WWP Contingent – 2017 Motor City Pride

Queer Liberation and Socialism

Saturday, June 17, 5 PM

5920 Second Ave., Detroit, MI 48202

In our age of neo-fascist reaction and imperialist destruction, queer lives and communities are facing a renewed assault by the most reactionary elements of our society. The president and vice president are arch-bigots, and the VP in particular believes in “gay conversion therapy.” The rights of trans individuals to public space, represented by the right to gender-neutral bathrooms, are coming under attack as well. 11 trans individuals of color have been murdered so far in 2017.

As capitalism proves that it is incapable of providing the means of living to the vast majority of people on earth, the problems facing the queer community are becoming more acute. LGBTQ youth homelessness and lack of access to health care services are a facet of capitalism that cannot be resolved under this system.

Please join the Queer Liberation Contingent of Workers World Party at our follow-up forum to Pride to discuss how only socialism is capable of providing the queer community with the means to determine our own bodies and livelihoods, how queer oppression is intertwined with capitalism, and how socialism has historically responded to queer oppression.

Dinner followed by program
